Technology. Something we all use everyday to varying degrees, based on personal preference. I have been reflecting upon this of late. Some of the questions that have arose are: is this technology I’m using, from the extensive use of the internet to stream everything from movies to music, the smartphone and being constantly connected to social media and email, good for my health and relationships?

Why have I chosen to veil and the process I went to, to decide what type of covering to use and how I feel since. Many things can happen over the course of our lives that can cause us grief. The loss of a loved one, the end of a romantic relationship, or drastic changes in our lives are all things that likely have grief attached to them.

One of the core practices of any monastic life is that of gratitude. The regular practice of taking inventory of and recognizing all that we have to be grateful for is one of the direct causes of a deep and abiding joy in our lives. By Fr. Bjorn, OES
I like to think of life as having seasons, just as a year has seasons. We as monastics undergo constant change and growth, and this is reflected as we grow in wisdom and dedication to our monastic practices. This growth happens in spurts at times, with some taking longer than others.
Lent and Advent are my favorite liturgical seasons. Lent more so because of its message of hope in the mercy of God, Who is loving and merciful to any who would ask.

This content also appears on Fr. Bjorn's personal blog, The Tiniest Hermit. This community is bound by three vows: Simplicity, Listening and Stewardship. These are not the traditional monastic vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience, but are important to our community in the same way that the more traditional vows are honored by other monastic orders. It has been a very interesting few years for me. I began my monastic practice with the standard Seeker and Novice periods of six months and one year respectively. It has been three months today sine I took my first vows. I feel it fitting to be writing this post today. It’s a milestone of sorts, but I digress. By Fr. Bjorn, OES
Advent is my favorite liturgical season, with Lent coming in as a close second. It is a season of joyful hope, awaiting the arrival of Christ into our hearts anew at Christmas. |
