Conversion: A Retrospective

I am enjoying the fact that the sunrise is later in the morning lately. It reminds me of the decade that I lived in Seattle, most of which was spent under monastic vows; first a small, budding Franciscan community that has grown into a canonically recognized, international order in the ECUSA, and another small but dedicated Benedictine community which has also gained canonical recognition in the Episcopal Church.

In my search for a monastic community in which I could be fully honest authentic and still be accepted, I had the blessings of seeing how many different monasteries go about their daily life together. At first it seemed wondrous to me that the larger monasteries seemed to run as smoothly as they did, and I often wondered if they ever struggled with disagreements among the monks.
